During the Middle Ages, and later, many kings interfered with Church matters. Sometimes they got away with it, but at other times, it did not work well at all.
Quite apart from spiritual, moral, and ethical considerations, kings could be excommunicated when they interfered to much in Church matters. When this happened, the people who had sworn oaths of allegiance to the kings were often excused from those oaths, treaties were often invalidated, and people who had claims to the throne were often given licence to exercise those claims, whether by rebellion or by invasion.
Emperor Henry IV of the Holy Roman Empire opposed the attempt by Pope Gregory VII to prevent kings from installing bishops of their own choosing. The result of this was the Investiture Controversy, which eventually decided the issue in favor of the Church. In the meantime, it made it possible for members of the German nobility to rise against Henry, and so limited his authority and ability to act.
King Henry II of England tried to limit the powers of the Church in England. In this he was opposed by Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury. Henry famously shouted out some unrecorded words that led to the assassination of Thomas Becket. This resulted in his excommunication and a great weakening of his authority and prestige.
King Henry VIII took over the Church in England, to the extent that he was able to take Church lands and sell them or give them to supporters. He got away with this. But he did so because the people of the country could support his acts, which they did partly because of protestant sympathies, and partly because there were riches to be had.
But usually, when kings came up against the Church, while both lost, it was the king who lost most.

why should a state interfere in personal matters of citizen
A church should be devoid of any political interference. It should be self sustaining and self governing. This does not mean that its parishoners should not be involved in politics. All honest men should be aware of their countries political situation. The church should have no influence upon its members as to how they should vote except to vote for honest and just men and women.Answer:Yes. The church should, should we allow laws to be passed that are against the will of God. If more Christians stood up for their beliefs, the world would be a better place (in my opinion)
