on the shifter push the button on the left side. If that does not work disconnect battery for a few minutes. On my kia when the hold button kept flashing and stayed on I discovered that my transmission fluid was low. Once i put the transmission fluid in the light went off.

well I had a 1991 Mazda protege and when the hold light started flashing my transmission was going out. don't know if this will be of any help to you but i jut thought i would share that info. I have a 97 kia. try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. Might work after that. I have a 2000 Kia. On my gearshift (which is between the 2 front seats) there is ANOTHER button just under the gearshift button. When I press this button, my Kia is now in gear HOLD. This means that no matter how fast or slow my Kia may be going, it WILL NOT change gears. It will hold the last gear speed that the Kia was in when the HOLD button was pressed. Also, when in HOLD, I have a HOLD light that lights up in the gage cluster. Using this option is not recommended unless you REALLY know what you're doing as it is HAZERDOUS to your TRANSMISSION. I don' use mine much. Ussually on steep inclines. Peace...........

Disconnect the battery for about 5 min and then try it. Should work after that. The hold flashing light means the transmission is locked in a perticular gear, so to disengage it press the button just below the shifter knob on the left side of the shifter. If this does not work disconnecting battery will NOT solve your problem .you will have to purchase a transmission computer box located under drivers side of dashboard.Take the one with you to the junk yard to match it up by the #s on the box. Should run about $ 100.00,at Kia $950.00.

I have a 2000 Kia Sportage and when the hold button is flashing, the transmission is locked in low, by the gear shift is a button that says, hold, some how it got pushed, you might have a button on the dash that says, power and economy, I read in the manuel that it should be in economy for every day driving, if you are towing something, you can use power, and the hold, it lets the transmission, pull harder, and doesn't shift as fast.
