You mean the king, not the play by Shakespeare. Henry VI's problems started because he ascended the throne as a child. This meant that there was a lot of internal politicking and bickering between the Protector and other advisors. This persisted even after Henry came of age. Add to this that he was a gullible and pious man and the result was that he was no good at realpolitik. Indeed, he was not particularly interested in politics, hoping that everyone would be nice to one another so he could attend to his prayers. In the political atmosphere which had started during his minority, this was a disastrous policy.
