Ida B. Wells was also important because back then, most journalists at the major newspapers were white, and they rarely covered issues that affected the lives of black people. There were a few black journalists who were working for white publications, but it wasn't until the rise of the "Negro Press" (black people were called "Negroes" in that era) that the issues of the black community had a regular place to be expressed. As a result of her reporting and her advocacy, Ida B. Wells was able to call attention to racial injustice, and attract both white and black readers.

Jacques Derrida, on the other hand, developed deconstruction as a critique of structuralism, challenging the idea of fixed meanings and hierarchies in language and thought, which aligns with key themes in postmodernism. Both thinkers have contributed to shaping postmodernist ideas about language, meaning, and representation.
