Millard Filmore was Zachary Taylor's Vice President and rose to the Presidency when Taylor died in office in 1850. President Fillmore was not nominated for the presidential election in 1852, so he only served until 1853 when Franklin Pierce took office.

The primary reason that US President George H. W. Bush served only one term was the onset of a recession that came upon the United States during the later part of his term. He also had promised not to raise taxes, however, he did, but not by choice. Pressure from the Democrat Party and others created a situation where taxes were raised.

President Ford was the Vice President under Richard Nixon from 1973-1974 after Spiro Agnew resigned when criminal charges were brought against him. Ford succeeded Nixon as President when Nixon was impeached 1 year into his second term. Ford Finished the rest of Nixon's term which was about 3 years.

Fillmore was vice-president when President Taylor died and so completed Taylor's term. He was defeated in his attempt to gain the nomination for a second term by Gen. Winfield Scott.
