The charge was corrupting the minds of the youth of Athens. What he really had done was make many influential and important citizens of Athens look foolish, but to charge him with that would have made them look even worse, and the actual charge was true enough in the sense that he had given the youth of Athens ideas these important and influential citizens weren't happy with... for one thing, that these same citizens were fools.
The people of Athens blamed him for spreading anti-democratic teachings, thus putting him on trial.

By Socrates being in jail, it is making his aquaintances and all those who are associated with Socrates look bad. If it turns out that Socrates is executed, it will appear to everyone else that Crito values money and wealth over friends. In thinking about this Crito realises that this will make him look terrible and he will be shamed. Crito feels Socrates should escape from death and as he knows people in nearby towns, exile would not be a terrible fate. Crito believes that by staying in jail, Socrates in taking the easy way out where escape would be the most honourable and courageous thing to do. he doesn't want others to criticize him for not saving his friend's life.
Crito first reminded Socrates about the negative consequences of not escaping, such as the loss of reputation and leaving his children without a father.
