Yorktown is located on the northern shore of a Virginia peninsula extending into Chesapeake Bay, bounded by the York River on the north and the James River on the south. These are wide tidal rivers at this point.
However I have never heard the Revolutionary War Battle of Yorktown called "the peninsular campaign". There was a campaign during the American Civil War on this same peninsula in 1862 which IS called the Peninsular Campaign, involving Union and Confederate forces. This involved the effort of Federal troops under McClellan to capture the Confederate capital of Richmond by approaching from the east, after landing at the tip of the Peninsula. The initial Confederate defense line the Federal troops encountered was in the vicinity of Yorktown, and some of the trenches from eighty years before were occupied again.
This campaign is called the Peninsular (peninsula) Campaign because the action was fought on the peninsula of land bounded on the north by the York River, the south by the James River and extending out to Chesapeake Bay. The Battles of Yorktown (which was not a battle but a siege that produced next to no results for McClellan) Williamsburg, Hanover Court House, Seven Pines, and the battles of The Seven Days were all fought during this expedition. The thrust of the campaign was the capture of the Confederate capital at Richmond, Virginia but it ended in failure.
It was the Battle of Yorktown.

Battle of Yorktown
The Overland Campaign
The first two Union victories in the Peninsula campaign of 1862 were the successful siege of Yorktown and the Battle of Williamsburg, Virginia. General McClellan was able to occupy Yorktown after a long siege and on May 3, 1982, Confederate forces abandoned Yorktown to the Federals. On May 5, Union forces battled at Williamsburg. The battle itself may be called a technical draw or inconclusive, however, by May 6, 1862, units of the Army of the Potomac were in control of the city. The siege of Yorktown lasted almost one month. Many critics believe that McClellan wasted far too much time on his siege of Yorktown. Nevertheless, any threat that the Rebels had against McClellan by holding on to Yorktown were ended on May 3rd.
The Battle ships that the patriot prisoners are on.
No, the one in Charleston saw service in WWII and Vietnam. But there was a previous aircraft carrier in WWII also called the Yorktown, that was lost at the battle of Midway. Just google "Yorktown CV-10' and you can read all about the one in Charleston.

The Battle of Yorktown was the last major battle of the American Revolutionary War. It was basically because British General Cornwallis, believed that in order to have control over the Carolina's, he would have to take control of Virginia. Cornwallis eventually settled his troops within the region of the Chesapeake Bay. General George Washington, ordered that Cornwallis and his troops be blockaded. From this, Cornwallis and his troops were trapped. On October 19, 1781, Cornwallis surrendered his army of about 7,000 soldiers. The British band piped a tune called "The World Turned Upside Down." The fighting was over.
It's called a campaign.
