Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill first became Prime Minister Of Britain when Neville Chamberlain resigned in May 1940. He was appointed by King George VI who believed he would have the support of a majority of Members of the Parliament and so be able to form a Government.

Churchill again became Prime Minister in October 1951 when the Conservative Party of which he was Leader gained a Majority of seats in Parliament at a General Election and so again he was appointed by King George VI.
