The concept of freedom of religion, emerged in America from European immigrants settling the "New World" to escape the oppression of their native countries. The whole reason the pilgrims settled Plymouth Rock Massachusetts, was because their religion (Puritanism) was banned in England and they were not allowed to worship as they saw fit. Freedom of religion goes hand in had with the founding principles of the United States; that all men should be free.
