The Jews wanted Jesus killed but did not have the authority to do so themselves. They had to get Pilate, the Roman Governor, to do it. If the Jews had, themselves, killed Jesus, he would not be the real Christ.

Read the stories of messianic figures like Joseph (Gensis 37:18-28) and Samson (Judges 15:11-14) and you will discover hidden prophesies that the children of Israel will never be permitted by God to kill the Messiah. They can ONLY DELIVER Him into the hands of the Gentiles. It is up to God what happens next. As Jesus told Pilate, "Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above." (John 19:11)

The fact that Jews did not kill Jesus is another sign that He IS the TRUE Messiah.

Why did Jesus wear the crown of thorns?

Jesus was and is the King of the Jews, as proclaimed by the wise men, (Matthew 2.2), and by Pilate, on Jesus' cross in three languages. (John 19.19,20). But the people who rule this world, (Herod and the soldiers then), think this of Jesus, the everlasting Father and Prince of Peace. "If he is a king, then let us crown him - with thorns!" And Jesus never argued; He is meek and lowly in heart.

Who sentenced Jesus to crucification?

The Jews. The Roman governor Pilate saw that Jesus was a blameless man and asked the crowd who consisted of mostly Jews to pardon Jesus. It was Passover and the Jews were allowed to allow one prinsoner form the jail to be set free. The Jews chose for a murder named Barabas to be set free and chanted for Jesus to be crucified. Read Matthew 27: 11-25. I'm adding this from my comments in the discussion: Crucifixion (not, 'crucification') was a Roman form of execution. For someone to be crucified they had to have broken a Roman law. Therefore, Jesus must have broken a Roman law, which means the Roman governor sentenced him to crucificxion. Whether the population of Jerusalem at the time chose to free him or not, the ones who sentenced him were Roman. (Timarkos)

What role did the Jews play in Jesus death?

The ordinary Jewish person played no real part in the death of Jesus. Those who were the political and religious leaders wanted Jesus removed as He was a threat to their understanding of religion and God. According to the New Testament, these leaders searched for any excuse to have Jesus condemned, even bringing forward witness who lied (Matthew 26:60). However, the Jewish leaders could not sentence anyone to death and so had to bring Jesus to the Roman governor, Pilate, for this to take place (John 18:31). Therefore, although it was Pontius Pilate who ordered the crucifixion of Jesus, it was the Jewish chief priests and elders who requested that this be done.

What does it mean that Jesus was charged with being the king of Jews?

At the time of His crucifixion, the Romans put a sign at the top of Jesus' cross that said "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews." This was at the order of Pilate. The Chief Priests complained to Pilate that it should have said "This man claimed to be king of the Jews", but Pilate refused their argument, saying "What I have written will stay written".

What on Jesus cross believed Jesus words?

The sign on the Cross, which Pilate, the Roman governor of Roman occupied Israel, had made to be placed on the Cross of Jesus Christ, believe Jesus' words. For we read in the gospel of John chapter 19 verses 19 through 21: Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek. The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, "Do not write 'The King of the Jews,' but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews." Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written."

How did Jesus influence Pilate?

Jesus did not exert influence over Pilate in the traditional sense. However, Pilate's decision to crucify Jesus was influenced by political pressure and fear of potential unrest, rather than by any personal influence from Jesus.

Why did the sign on Jesus' cross offend Jews?

Because it read 'King of the Jews'. The Pharisees (Jewish priests who had Jesus crucified) wanted it changed to "I say I am the king of the Jews" but Pilate would not.
