The colony of Jamestown was established in 1607 by the British because the British wanted to start their own colony in the new world since there was a cold war ( a fight for who is military strong and who has the most united power) and the British, French, and Spanish werecompetingto own more land in the new world.

Jamestown wasn't established as a colony, but as an investment for a group who sent the men to look for gold. There was no gold, but there were mosquitoes, disease, starvation, and an empire of 15,000 Native Americans. The result was within six months only 34 men were alive.
