Good question! The creeper was actually a mistake- When Mojang was trying to program pigs into minecraft, they accidentally made their bodies vertical rather than horizontal, resulting in a creature with a long body and 4 feet that were very close together. They liked the model, so they made it green, slapped a spooky face on it, coded in some explosive power, and the creeper was born! True story.
