The Freedmen's bureau was the bureau that was helped to feed millions of freed slaves and whites after the Civil War. The Freedmen's bureau was established on March 3, 1865.
The Freedmen's Bureau provided food, housing and medical aid, established schools and offered legal assistance. It also attempted to settle former slaves on land confiscated or abandoned during the war.
This was designed to protect the interest of former slaves. Includes helping them find new employment and improve educational and health facilities. In the following year the Bureau spent $17,000,000 establishing 4,00 schools, 100 hospitals, and food for former slaves.
Was re-designated by the Secretary of Commerce in 1934. The Aeronautics Branch was originally created to provide oversight of the Air Commerce Act of 1926
