Daily life for the ancient Romans was busy, noisy and hard. For food they would have their main meal at night and if they were poor they usually didn't even have a kitchen so they had to live on bread and porridge.Most of the time the ancient Roman men had their hair short, plus they shaved.

By our standards, Roman cities, as well as other ancient cities, were not clean. They were noisy, smelly and crowded and in hot weather breeding places for disease. The air was polluted with smoke due to the many sacrifices held each day and the streets stunk due to animal droppings and sometimes the dumping of chamber pots. Rome itself, was semi-free of some of the pollution as many houses were built up on the hills getting away, even slightly, from the noise and pollution.
