Travel is required out of necessity. Even Stonhenge was built with stones from many miles away rerquiring travel. Then people would have to travel to worship there. In The Bible the Jews were required to travel to Jersusalem for the festivals to worship there. In the Industrial Revolution, people started to live in cities more and again travel was involved. Great empires were built - Babylon, Egypt, Rome, British, Ottoman Turk, Holy Roman Empire, Spanish and French colonies in a greed for land and power but also for raw materials and slaves etc and also for trade. All this necessitated travel.
