Italy only joined the war to get land. When they received little land, they were upset. (A reason they joined on the Axis sides in WWII)

Japan thought only Asians should be in Asia. They didn't like the fact that England, France, and the Dutch had colonies in Asia.

When it came time to sign the Treaty of Versailles (to end WW I), Italy was left out of a lot of the treaty negotiations. This was because Britain and France felt that Italy didn't do their fair share during the war. It was true that these countries had to send troops to the Italian front to prevent the country from being overrun.

Italy agreed with some parts of the treaty, but were mad about not getting the territories they were promised.

Japan felt slighted because they had tried to include a clause on racial equality, but leaders of the western powers at Paris, Wilson among them, rejected it. The Japanese resented the British and French ideas that whites were superior.
