These were very reasonable, if you consider Mexico was opening-up its borders to fellow Roman Catholic immigrants. These requirements included:

  • Following Mexico traditions
  • Observing Mexican law and customs

These of course, were not followed by Anglo immigrants, who where mostly English-speaking, protestant slave owners. The result was isolation from Mexican communities and frictions against the Mexican government that eventually triggered the Texas Revolution (1835 - 1836).
