The Palestinians were greatly saddened by the creation of the State of Israel, because they believed that the land that had physically belonged to their parents and grandparents should have been theirs for inheritance. In their minds, it did not make sense that a group of German, Polish, French, English, and Russian speaking people should claim land that their ancestors had not even visited for centuries. Even by the time of Israel's Declaration of Statehood, less than half of the land within the UN proscribed borders of Resolution 181 was owned by Jews. Therefore, the idea of Jewish State being even more physically expansive than the land already taken was alarming.

The British took a large part of their land and called it Israel for Jewish people to live in. The Palestinians didn't have any say, and the Jewish people hadn't lived there for a long time. This isn't a dating question :) Many Palestinians lost their homes and land when the state of Israel was formed. This is the main reason they are upset. There are several UN resolutions aimed at getting Israel to compensate the Palestinians, but so far they have not been enforced by the global community.

I believe that Israel has told Palestine again and again that they will defend themselves whenever they are attacked first. That's what Israel has done.... again and again. Israel is occupying only 10% of the country they were promised by Palestine. They are constantly being forced back and the palestinians have said that they will force them into the sea! Can you blame them for defending themselves? I can't understand why palestine keeps attacking first and the whole world gets upset at Israel because they are defending themselves?

During WWII, Britain made two promises in its search for allies. One, it promised the Palestinians that if they joined them and overthrew the Ottoman Turks, they'd be given their own country. Two, Britain promised the Zionists that if they joined their cause, a Jewish homeland would be created for them. After the war, Britain found itself between a rock and a hard place. To compromise, Britain partitioned the land. That is, they split the land in two and gave the western half to the Zionists and the eastern half to the Palestinians. Needless to the say, this didn't fly well, and ever since, the Palestinians and the Israelis have been fighting for the land.
