∙ 12y agoBecause the Zimmerman telegram was intercepted stating that Germany was attempting to get Mexico as an ally for WWI. Not wanting to tempt Mexico on siding with Germany (w/Mexico being on the US border) the US decided to get as far away from a possible clash (w/Mexico) as practical.
