They had to stop in the middle of the street which meant that passengers needed to get out in the street which made it dangerous. Many people were killed by passing cars. Street cars still exist in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the United States, where they can operate on streets separate from automobiles. Subways exist in a number of places. More are being built. They are expensive to build or even more would be built.
