In the Middle Ages the world was a stinky place. Streets were dirty with garbage, animal feces, mud, and all sorts of things. People didn't take baths and didn't wash clothing. The food was over cooked, mushy, rotten, and didn't have much flavor. The products from Asia were things that helped with some of these things. Spices helped make the food better tasting, perfumes made people smell better, and silks were more comfortable to wear compared to the scratchy wool or linens. New foods also introduced to Europe. Peaches, Oranges, and other foods came to Europe from Asia.
