The reason for slavery was an economic issue. The plantation owners could not afford to pay nor did they have the population built up enough in the new countries. They only bought the first slaves and let them have children to make them commit to their situation. Some owners were good to the slaves, but they were only a commodity and had little less rights than a white woman.

They fought because they would lose the help and would lose their crops and income, which they were use to having.

After the slavery was over, many stayed on as employees but the conditions were worse. You can find more information on Google. I just finished learning about the Civil war in my history class.

I don't believe in slavery either, just because it was done in all Earth's history, doesn't make it right.
