Why Were Slaves Brought to North America? Is this how you do your homework? That's low.

The first slaves were brought to Jamestown but proved unsuccessful due to the fact that the farms weren't large enough to buy them.
Slavery was also tried in the northern colonies but failed for the same reason.
Slavery kicked off in Carolina when they began to grow rice on large plantations. Slaves were already good at growing rice, and Carolina had connections with the British West Indies and had adopted their legal system concerning slaves.

Because this is where they were needed. Slaves represented big business. The buying and selling of people made great sums of money for the traders. Additionally, the purchasers obtained laborers who worked for only their board and keep. As slaves didn't need to be paid because they were owned, they could be set to tasks in numbers to perform the heavy labor in jobs like agriculture. The shrewd businessman/farmer could get the slaves to pay for themselves in a short period, and then his profits would soar. Certainly the owner could breed the slaves as well as buy and sell them.

Mostly for profit and for goods for the "main country" (England). They were used for goods, and treated like goods.
