The declaration of independance was a letter written addressed to Great Britain that listed what the settlers' disliked about Britain's rule over them. After the french and Indian war Britain taxed the colonies heavily to pay of the debt from the war. Before this the colonies lived almost entirely free from british rule. The writers of the declaration were so important because they declared the colonies desire for independance from Britain. They were also some of the same writers of the constitution, Bill of Rights, and the Articles of Confederation (America's first form of government which failed and was replaced with the constitution)
