Why when you start your dodge grand caravan and it sounds like it wants to start but it does not kick on?

AnswerI have a 92 Dodge Caravan that would crank but not start, after kicking the gas tank it has started fine everytime. Could be the fuel pump which is in the gas tank. First have someone open the gas cap and listen while trying to turn it on, if there is a whirring sound that means the fuel pump is working. If you don't hear anything kick the gas tank gently once or twice, could be gunk trapped in it and could knock it loose.

On the fuel rail there is a cap that looks like a valve stem, with a fuel pressure tester you can see if your fuel pump is working. this tool is about forty dollars. If your careful with the key turned to the on position your can use a key to push down to see if there is pressure built up. BE CAREFUL not to get gas into your eyes, if working properly there should be alot of pressure. I'm not sure of the exact amount but I believe its around 40lbs.
