You can view the 2000 Ford Focus owners manual online at : www . motorcraft service . com ( no spaces ) Click on Owner Guides ( page 134 explains what to do with the brake / shift interlock if your gearshift lever is stuck in Park with the brake pedal depressed )
The problem with the Gear Shift Leaver not shifting even when the pushbutton and the brake pedal are depressed indicated that there is a problem with the electronic throttle control system (ETC). The ETC sends messages to the On-board diagnostic computer (OBD) which does not permit the transmission lever to be moved. This problem can be corrected by going to your Local Toyota Dealer which has a hand held computer to correct the error in the ETC. The OBD computer may have to be reset to reset the ETC as well.
