I can't imagine the two are related. Try turning your steering wheel left and right when taking it out of Park. Sometimes just releasing the pressure on the shift mechanism lock will allow you to get it out of Park. For the brake lights, check the fuses. Good luck.
Shift cable needs to be adjusted.
Make sure your car is on.
Check brake lights--if they do not work shift interlock will not release

Align the shift indicator orreplace it. Your problem is strictly column mechanical.

I looked at my 1995 Ford Explorer owners manual and it shows : If you cannot shift from Park with the brake pedal depressed : a . Apply the parking brake b . Remove the key c . Insert the key and rotate one position clockwise ( ignition OFF ) d . Depress the brake pedal and shift to Neutral e . start the vehicle If you need to shift out of Park by using the procedure above , it is possible that a fuse has blown and that your brake lights might not be working ( fuse # 10 - 10 amp - brake shift interlock / fuse # 13 - 15 amp - stop lamps ) verify that your brake lights are working before you drive the vehicle
If your Ford Contour is stick in park, the transmission may be going out. You gear shift may also not be all the way in place.
No , I'm not sure what year Ford started this but it's called the brake shift interlock , where you have to have the brake pedal depressed to shift out of PARK . Unfortunately you don't mention what year of Ford F-150 but the instructions are usually in the owners manuals telling you what to do if you can't shift out of PARK with the brake pedal depressed
You have to step on the brake pedal and hold it, then shift into gear.
CANT GET THE SHIFT LEVER OUT OF PARK
Put your foot on the brake.
