Assuming you mean distributor cap and rotor, yes, if you mixed up the firing order.
try replacing your distributor, distributor cap, rotor, and maybe the spark plug wires.
are the plug wires in the correct sequence for firing order? Are the coil wires all connected? Did you remove the distributor and possibly put it out of time?

I would start with replacing plugs, wires, and distributor cap/rotor (if applicable). If that doesn't help, have the timing and compression checked by someone who knows what they are doing. Those are the basic causes of ignition problems. Hope this helps!
