A Taurus auto that will not shift from the column shifter is usually due to a transmission issue. Transmission's are an expensive fix. Shop around before committing to one mechanic.
none, the trans am package came with a console shifter
If the problem is that the shifter will not move you need to check the shift cable. If the shifter moves, but the trans doesn't shift; you need to check the fluid level and , the system for trouble codes.
A His and Her shifter is where you can go from an auto shift to a manual shift with out having to change trans. and things like that.
you probably broke the shifter cable. this is a metal cable that run from the shifter in your column to the prndl switch on the trans eay to fix and relatively cheap
Loose hold down clamp or broken shift cable.
Under the dash on the steering column or bolted to the side of the floor shifter
There are Two one in the steering column and one on the trans shifter link.
really? what drive shaft. its a shift tube for the trans. trans is in the rear of the car. its called a trans axle. trans shifts the cv joints which turns the wheels. so you never have to take down the shift tube for no reason theirs a long steel rod inside that tube. that comes from your shifter to the trans.
You should just unscrew it off the shifter. It might be on there tight, but it should just screw off. I put the stock shifter knob on my B&M short throw shifter
If you remove the access panel you will see where the shifter is bolted to the top of the trans, remove the 4 bolts holding it on and it will pull straight up and out.
check your shifter bushings, next would be inside the trans at the shift collar.
not sure but check the left side of the tranny and there maybe a cable hooked to the shift arm that goes to the steering column that locks the key in the on posistion !!!! if so unhook it from the trans. and push the arm up on the column hopefuly that will solve it !!!!!!!!!!!
