Bad break light switch. It's located on the top of the brake petal. One bolt removes it. It's an inexpensive part and easy to replace. You will need to make a minor adjustment when you install the new one so that the relay (small piston) contacts correctly.
check your ground wire in the back
Those tail lights could be the brake lights you are seeing and that would be a faulty brake light switch or the brake light switch is out of adjustment.
Check the fuses- Shift interlock is the same circuit as brake lights. As a temporary measure - try to turn the key to 1st (unlock) position shift to neutral to start vehicle and then shift to Drive.
Believe it or not, I have had to disconnect the cig lighter in order for the tail lights to work. Sounds far fetched but it does work!
Brake light switch is broken or needs adjustment.
Check the brake light switch down on the brake pedal.
Check the ground wire. You have a bad connection somewhere.
check that you have double filament bulbs in tail lights
Defective or misaligned brake light switch.
Break lights come on when you step on the break, they do not come on when the head lights are turned on.
Brake Lights do not turn offUsually this is caused by the physical position of the brake light switch not being adjusted properly.
Check the park lamp fuse.
