behind the glovebox ============================================ According to the 1996 Ford Contour Owner's Manual, "The instrument panel fuse panel is underneath the instrument panel on the left side. To open it, reach under the instrument panel and push the release button to the right of the fuse panel." That's about as good of a description as any you'll find. If you look under the instrument panel to the left of the steering column, you should see it.
Open the drivers door and look at the lower dash and you will see a panel that can be removed and that is where you will find the fuse.
as you open the driver's door look at the side of the instrument panel there should be a panel just pop it open and you will see all fuses!
Has the instrument light dimmer wheel, beside your headlight switch on the dash been rotated down to the lowest position ? Or, if you mean your warning lamps, I know that on my 1995 there is a 10 amp fuse in location # 11 , in the fuse panel on the driver's end of the dash panel (visible with driver's door open) for the warning lamps.
Open the boot, and pull away the compartment at the relevant side. You should then be able to access a panel, where there are two clips you will need to squeeze, which then releases the lights. Pull the bulb panel toward you and replace the third bulb down!
Side panel on driver's side of instrument panel. To access open driver's door and slide forward panel by pulling on indentation.
