there is a fuse dedicated to the running lights on the 96 Thunderbird. Check your fuse panel under the dashboard for the proper fuse and check to see if it is blown.
If a 1996 Thunderbird is getting spark and fuel, but won't start, there could be a problem with the computer itself. There is also a possibility that the electronic part that replaced the condenser is bad inside the coil pack.

Does it turn over? Does it have fuel, spark and compression?
the 96 thunderbird was only available in an auto tranny.. the 4R70W, this is the same auto tranny that the 96 - 04 mustang v6 and gt have, so you should have no problems.. hope this helps!
