it sounds like you have a bad starter..
Actually, I have this problem too. My car is fine on the highway, but when I stop or slow down it hesitates, or dies on me. Driving less than 20 miles, especially in slow traffic, no problem. We have replaced the fuel filter, pump, pieces of rusty fuel line. It has gotten better, but we still have problems. Next in line are the spark plugs, wires and electric trigger. Anyone else have any ideas?

There are a couple of reasons why a 1992 Chevrolet Corsica may cut off after being driven for a long period. One reason would be a bad solenoid. A trusted mechanic can determine the cause of the problem.

DID YOU EVER SOLVE PROBLEM ,, THIS IS THE SAME THING HAPPENING TO MY TRUCK?
I had the same problem with 2 cavaliers of mine ( which are basically the same as a sunfire) and my suggestion is the head gasket is bad or u have a cracked head most likely in between the valves.
unplug the alarm fuse 10 in the fuse box located when you open the drivers side door. it will trip the theft system momentarily, possibly starting. also you may have wiring problems if it starts and stop. passlock sensor, ignition switch, etc
A belt driven fan starts turning with the motor. An electric fan starts when the temperature reaches a certain level - and or, when the AC is turned on.
There could be an issue with your starter or the starter solenoid. Have it checked, but either part might need to be replaced.
Does the engine turn over every time you try, or does it sometimes do nothing when you turn the key?
My 2007 HHR has 125,000 miles and has NEVER been to the shop for any mechanical problems whatsoever. It still runs great although sometimes you have to turn it over a couple of times before it starts.
It usually starts with a whine in the differential.
