Hmmmmmm........interesting. I'm a psychologist and even I can't figure this one out. I believe it has something to do with the environment of your home and the environment of the babysitters home. Look at both environments and find the difference. Well Mr. Psychologist, I would think that maybe the child is biting himself because he has been biten by an adult who is attempting to change the behavior in an inappropriate manner.

Why do babysitters get paid by the hour and child?

Many jobs (not just babysitters) get paid by the hour because the more hours you work, the most labour you have to use, and therefore the more you should be paid. Babysitters also get paid based on how many children they're caring for because babysitting many children requires more work, energy, and supervision than just babysitting one or two children.

So if they are notified by the parent that their child wont be there then they can't charge them?

No they can't but most of them do. Most babysitters/child minders will charge you when your children are not with them as a way of earning extra monay and if you try to take them to court they will probably say they were expecting your child and it was up to you to notify them of the child's un attendance.
