I had a similar issue with my Jeep. And it went in and out of the dealership for almost a year until it was out of warranty. I took it to a different dealership and they replaced a burnt sparkplug. This plug usually lasts around three years and in my car only lasted three months. They believe that was the cause of the issue. Shortly after it was replaced it turned itself off again...but I gave it a week or so and it stopped. It has been three months since they replaced it and it has been operating fine. If you live with the problem long enough trust me it will not only turn off when in reverse, but also when you shift to drive as well. It is very cumbersome.
