Vacuum brake booster is defective or the hose going to the booster is leaking.
I would check the power brake booster
a brake booster supplies power to the brake system. this takes the hard out of the brake pedal allowing brakes to work harder with less effort or pressure on pedal from the driver
Probably have a defective power brake booster or the vacuum supply to the booster is restricted or leaking.
If you have a power brake booster then there will be a vaccum line that runs to the brake booster on the firewall from the carburator. Check the booster for holes and broken fittings or buy a new booster. if no brake booster then brakes shouldn't affect vaccum
It sounds like a vacuum problem. Either you got a bad brake booster or the vacuum line came loose somewhere or cracked when you changed the booster.
Yes they would still work, but it would be much harder to stop the vehicle because you don't have the booster powering the master cylinder, so you would have to push much harder on the brake pedal to stop.
You probably have air in the lines or the brake booster is losing vacuum. Have the brakes bleed and have someone put a vacuum gauge on the booster,
the brake booster is located between the master cylinder and the brake pedal. Inside the fire wall. I found it for $85 but i don,t know how to replace it without ripping out the dash. Found a shop that will do the work for $250.
if you recenly replaced bulbs u may have installed them backwards they should be running lights and brake lights if this is the case they maybe installed incorrectly
It could be a few things ...i would check the brake booster.. If it is bad it will make your pedal go all the way to the floor before it will have any brake pedal at all..also i would check your vacuum for the booster for your brakes to work you have to have vacuum on it for it to work !hope this helps, and as allways if you are not sure get a second opinion !
No adjustment should be necessary on your brake booster. These are a work or fail item except for a check valve in the hose on some models. The brake master cylinder that usually mounts to the front on some vehicles may need to be bled but that is pretty rare these days.
