If by slipping into 3rd gear you mean that it is hesitating to go into third gear you may have an accumulator piston seal broken or a clutch that is getting severely worn out. If you mean that it slips while it is in third gear you need to have the transmission pressure tested to make sure you have the proper fluid pressures in all gears. This should be done by a qualified mechanic on the proper lift as the wheels need to be off of the ground and someone needs to be inside the car accelerating while the pressure gauge is being read. The proper pressure gauge should be a 0-500 psi gauge and you should read at least 120 psi in all gears except reverse which should be 300 psi. If there is any fluctuation in pressure there most likely is a leaking seal inside of the transmission which will require a tear down.
Because the bands are slipping which has the same effect as slipping a clutch.
my car has been slipping in the transmission would it be the that the transmission is bad or is the filiter and the transmission fluid needing changed?
My advice would be to have the transmission fluid and filter changed. If that does not correct the problem you need to have the transmission rebuilt by a professional.
If no forward or slipping forward suspect problem in the forward clutch and circuit. Reverse does not use the same applied components
If the gears are slipping on a 1995 Honda Civic then the transmission is worn. The transmission will either soon need to be replaced or repaired.
sounds like that would be your clutch wearing out
Bad torque converter would be a likely reason, especially with the 4L60E
A power surge under a load is probably the transmission slipping. If its a manual transmission the pressure plate is slipping on the disc. If it is an automatic most likely it is a worn clutch pack slipping. If it surges at idle with the tranny in park the surge is usually a defective IAC (Idle Air Control) valve.
Hi, the trans front pump bolts have become loose. but if it has been slipping for a while then tigntening the bolts will not help you will have to replace it.
If the clutch is not slipping, I would say the transmission is fine, the engine may be the reason for the lack of power.
missing teeth on third gear
That would be your transmission. It may be slipping, or you may be lossing a gear. Have it checked.
