Why would my 2002 Grand Am turn or crank but not start and you can hear the fuel pump running?

Does it have gasoline in the tank? If so, then take off a spark plug wire and using insulated pliers hold it real close to the engine a fraction of an inch away. Have someone else try to start your car and see if there is a spark. If there is no spark, it is in your electrical system. Otherwise, it could be that your fuel injectors are clogged up. Just because you hear the fuel pump running does not mean fuel is getting into your cylinders.

Cranks and turn over are the same thing. It may crank or turn over and not start. If that is the case, find out if it needs fire or fuel and go from there.

I had this problem repaired today on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. The signs I had were: 1. Jeep was running fine, Parked it in the garage. 2.
