Bad Bulb/Bad Ground/Broken Wire
I had that problem in a Toyota Corolla, it was a blown fuse caused by a shorted light socket in the tail light assembly. Replaced both, and no more problem.
BTW the same company that makes many of the parts for Nissan also make parts for Honda, Toyota, and many other car brands. Keep this in mind when looking for problems.
Also it could be a relay for the tail lights.
