That is because there is a problem with the ABS. Take it to the dealer, not a DIY repair. the sensor 99% of the time on the top of the rear differential. You have to buy it at Ford about $25.00.One 10MM bolt holds it in place.Take it out plug in the new one push it back in the hole bolt it down. there is a sensor in the rear wheel that might be bad and need replacing, or if you can't do that right away, I've been able to unplug the connector from the side of the brake master cylinder under the hood. You will still have braking power, just not ABS. Yes, the rear ABS sensor mounted above the rear differential was my problem. To check it, remove the connector, and bolt mounting it to the differential. Pull it straight up. After removal, connenct an ohmmeter accross the terminals of the sensor. The sensor is a coil and should register continuity (low resistance) if good, otherwise an "open" indicates a bad sensor. If this check doesn't show a bad sensor, then you either have a problem with one of the front wheel sensors, or the ABS Control Module.
ABS stands for Automatic Braking System. The ABS light in a 1997 Ford Explorer will come on when this braking system is activated.
Bring t a shop that has an ABS scanner to determine the problem
have vehicle scanned with ABS scanner to determine the problem
Bring to a shop that has an ABS scanner to determine the problem
means your abs (brakes) NEEDS REPAIR OR SERVICE
A malfunction has been detected - get it checked out
Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem
If you want to just disable the ABS then you can pull out the fuse for the ABS relay. The only thing is the ABS light will show on the dash.
the computer is detecting fault within the abs system. your brakes will still function, but without the benefit of abs
thank you for your answer. i was having trouble with the abs light coming on and staying
The ABS light refers to a malfunction of the Anti-lock Brake System. When the light is on, it means there is a problem somewhere in the ABS that is not allowing it to function. Your hydrolic brakes will work. or your cencer is old or broke
It most likely has an abs problem (a code stored). Go and have the system scanned if you want the reason.
