If it is a fairly new car that is controlled by a computer, it is most probably the idle control valve. Other possibilities can be a bad fuel filter, pump or fuel pressure regulator.
a longer cam shaft will make a car idle rough
A 1994 Honda Accord can shut off for a number of reasons. The most common are lack of fuel or air. If there is a vacuum leak the car will idle erratically and shut off. When a car runs to lean it may not be able to hold an idle.
Because the engine is running. Shut it off or give it gas and it will not idle.
torque converter lock-up not disengaging? tps bad spot on idle position

When driving the IAC does not do anything because the car is not at an idle
If it is stuck open it will stall the engine at idle or run really rough. Stuck closed won't really affect it.
When the idle goes rough, you must idle the plugs. Else the car plugs roughly.
the car is garbage the car is garbage
could be the throttle cable is stuck or the idle air control valve is not working causing your car to idle high so when is gear would make the car speed up
The car doesn't use any fuel to shut it off, while cranking it only uses the same amount of fuel as it would while at idle.
To save gas, it is better to completely shut off the engine rather than allowing the vehicle to idle. This saves about 5 percent more gas than idling.
