This could be due to a number of reasons. The fact white smoke is emitted has nothing to do with overheating. The most likely reason is the burning of an oil based product by the engine. This could have been introduced via the gas tank or carbuerator. ie, an engine or carb cleaner. If no products have been introduced it is possible that the rings in the engine have failed, allowing oil to enter the combustion chamber and being burnt off in the form of exhaust smoke. If this is not checked soon the engine may fail.
Runs very roughly, usually with white smoke coming out of tailpipe & may be signs of water in oil as well as overheating & unexplained coolant loss(es).

9 times out of 10 it's the head gasket on an aluminum engine, usually because of warpage due to overheating. You will have to pull the head(s) involved and replace gasket. A machine shop will have to check cylinder head to see if it needs milled to straighten mating surface. If overheating caused it, will have to fix whatever the problem is in cooling system as well. Check fluid level and se if unusually low and oil for signs of water in it.
