A tapping noise is generally the result of a bad hydraulic lifter, plugged oil passage to the lifter, or bad tappets. Sometimes just changing to lower viscosity high detergent oil will cure it. Or "Any automotive oil additive with the word MIRACLE in it".
Exhaust leaks, bent pushrod
Wheel bearing
i was told by a Chevy serviceman that the ticking noise was coming from the fuel injectors firing.but to me it sounded more like lifters tapping or floating.
Dead battery
chances are good in your 1996 Chevy lumina if there is a slight tapping noise, check the oil. it may be low, or you may need to add a thicker additive. good luck!
Sounds like valvetrain noise. Insufficient oil, pressure or lash a little loose.
The whining noise in our 2001 2.2 cavalier turned out to be the a/c compressor. It ended up going out at about 120,000 miles. I would suggest having it serviced. I wish we would have had ours serviced.
Worn or glazed belt? Loose belt? Worn bearing on belt driven accessory?
I have a knocking noise near the water pump pully or idler arm pully on my 94 chevy cavalier 2.2 motor when its at idle, if i give it more gas the noise will go away do you know what this could be? i took off the tension idle pully and checked the bearing and it was fine.
if its when you are breaking it is possible it could be a rotor if you hear like a roaring or grinding noise coming from that side also could be a wheel bearing
YES it is. GM had a problem with the fuel pumps making noise and still does.
it's probably a rod knocking
