It may be a bad valve or piston, use an automotive stethoscope to track down the noise and I think you might find the noise comes from the intake manifold Ford is having a problem with the intake manifolds on Windstars and some other Ford vehicles, the internal baffle loosens and makes a knocking sound as it is moved by airflow. You will need to replace the upper intake manifold with a corrected part from Ford.
low oil and a loose piston skirt
A hole in the muffler would cause a knocking sound in your muffler. A loose exhaust pipe can also cause a knocking noise.
Most likely the piston is hitting the valve. This can cause a LOT of damage. i have a 95 turbo, and it jumped time causing the balance shaft to hit the crank. this sounded like a piston hitting a valve I would suspect a Rod Bearing. If the Piston interferes with the Valves it would barely run,, if at all. It's fixing to "sling a rod"....
No. Your piston(s) are hitting your cylinder wall. No. Your piston(s) are hitting your cylinder wall. No. Your piston(s) are hitting your cylinder wall.
If a Baja 180 is not running smooth and there is little power, it might be a dead cylinder. It is possible that a piston is broken which would cause the knocking sound and vibration.
Valve, valve spring, piston, piston ring, cylinder wall, head, headgasket, diluted oil, stuck injector,
bent valve, burnt valve, stuck valve, broken piston ring, cracked piston, cracked head, blown head gasket.
Worn piston rings, bad valve seals,
With Coasting I presume the sound is coming from the engine yes? If that is the case then the engine may be out of timing. this is easily adjusted but i would still only recommend having this fixed by a qualified mechanic. more details on the timing: Every engine is carefully timed. the knocking may be created by the piston hitting the closing or opening inlet/outlet valves on the way back up. this can cause severe damage to the engine as the valves could potentially bore through the piston resulting in possible damage to the piston walls as it slowly starts grinding its way through the engine walls. you may want to have this seen to.
it was meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
can you elaborate? engine noise? stationary/moving? ticking, tapping or a definite knocking?
If its a legitimate knocking then you would want to go with head gasket if its a tapping you would be looking at a valve
