bad ground wire from block to frame or distributor to frame or back to alternator if so designed.

Inside the distributor is the coil and sometimes the the epoxy that coats the the coil cracks and causes all kinds of headaches from starting problems to idling issues to misfire.

The spark travels from the coil to the distributor then from the distributor to the plugs. So if you have spark going into the distributor but not coming out to the plugs, I would blame the distributor cap and rotor being at fault.

Actually, in 1991 AMC/Eagle had a production cutoff where the early 1991s had a regular distributor, and the late 1991 models had the distributorless ignition system. Another source indicates that only the Canadian models had the regular distributor type system. So... depending on whether you have the distributor type or distributorless type, the firing order would be: Distributor type system: 1-6-3-5-2-4 (distributor rotation is CLOCKWISE) Distributorless system: 1-2-3-4-5-6

I have a 1991 Eagle Summit that just stalled out one day and would not start back up. Two years we played with this, switching out distributors, adjustments. No codes coming up on the computer and tno firing. Then I started making calls to parts shops and just about every parts person I spoke to said try the distributor. When I told them I did than they said it's the computer. What they have seen with these vehicles is that this problem is almost always caused by the distributor or computer. The dealerships and parts stores wanted too much for a computer- used (you don't know what you're getting)-rebuilt and new. I found this company in Texas that deals with rebuilding faulty vehicle computers. Prices are resonible and the company is terrific. They sent me a rebuild and I sent them my old one. The computer was installed and the vehicles, after being down for alittle over 2 years, started right up. How do you set the timing for a 1995 Eagle Summit AWD?
I just changed the timing belt on my 1994 Eagle summit 2.4 litre. Remove all the belts and wheels connected. Take off the covers to expose the timing belt. Your top pulley should be on the top marks aligned. The two bottom ones should point at about 10 o'clock. There should be 2 marks on the engine block. uhh the top mark(cam) might just go 90 degees to the front or level to the head gasket the no 1 piston(right drivers side) should be up to top all the way exactly and if you havnt moved your distributor ( dont ) it should start outher wise the distributor rotor would be faceing down with the rest of the marks as discribed ok?
