There can be various reasons, some are: * The most common reason would be that there is a venting problem. If you install more venting pipes and two way valves on the main sewer line outside, it will most likely sort the problem out. Or, * Sewer gases are escaping from the Plumbing in an infrequently used drain. The drain pipes are curved so they will hold a small amount of water to "cap" the drain and prevent the escape of the unpleasant smelling gases into the room. If the faucet does not get water run very often, this "dam" of water in the drain pipes will evaporate and there will no longer be a block of the gases. To fix, merely run water down the drain more often. Running for less than a minute is usually enough so you don't have to waste water. Or, * If you have a septic system, it may be time to have it pumped. Or, * If you have an aerobic septic system, it may need chlorine tablets added. Or, * Check your natural gas energy sourceswithin the house to be sure there is no slow leak of gas since the odor of natural gas and sewer gases can be mistaken. Your gas supply company will come to do a pressurized gas leak check if you contact them and tell them you think you may be smelling the odor of natural gas in your house.

Why Do I Have a Sewer Smell in My Home?

Have you noticed an unpleasant odor drifting through your home? You didn’t burn dinner. You just cleaned the house. Still, for some reason, your home smells like the sewer. You can try to cover up the stench with scented candles, but this probably isn’t the best solution. This smell is typically caused by one of three reasons: Sewer trap plugs. Missing or loose sewer trap plugs are the most common cause of indoor sewer smell. Your sewer access pit contains a house trap. This is a U-shaped piece that traps water to serve as a barrier between the city sewer and your home. If the plug on this trap is poorly fitted or gone entirely, public sewer odor can travel into your home. Simply replace the plug, and your air should clear. Dried trap. If the water in the U-trap has dried up, it no longer acts as a barrier to the sewer odor. Run some water into the trap to recreate the barrier. This should eliminate the odor. City sewer. Is the odor coming from outside? A sewer smell outdoors can indicate the city sewer is experiencing major plumbing problems, not your home. However, if the smell persists, it may be due to the drains from your house. Contact a plumber to check your drainage system for proper functioning. When home or property owners are experiencing heavy drain clogs in UK, they call the experts at MR Drains, as they are experts in all aspects of drainage from blocked drains, to CCTV camera surveys, to all aspects of drain repairs.

What is traps that mentioned in pipe fitting?

That would be a p-trap, like what is located under every sink. This U joint holds water to prevent a sewer smell or odor from the sewer or tank from coming back into the house. It is a trap of water that prevents air gas from reeking your house out!

What would cause sewer gas smell in house when wind blows?

The vent terminal is allowing down drafts to enter thus one would have to install a return bend on this pipe to prevent the air from entering but it will allow sewer fumes to escape
