Yes But . . . . Not a good Idea ! Why you ask ;-) the thermostats main function is to get the temperature of the engine up as fast as possible. Better performance, less wear on engine parts, better fuel mileage & heater functionality. A 190 degree thermostat will get the operating temperature up quick. If you're engine is overheating? The only way a thermostat will cause overheating is if it is stuck shut or restricted from opening completely. The Thermostat when operating properly plays no part in the final temperature of how hot the engine runs. Cooling system capacity, condition of the cooling fins ( external fins ) the internal cooling passages of the radiator, un-restricted air flow across the radiator, 50/50 coolant mixture, radiator cap, electric fans at low in town speeds, air flow at highway speeds all play a part of the final running temperature. Engines will typically run around 225 degrees. Once the temperature passes 190 degrees . . . . . the thermostat has done its job and is wide open. It's the rest of the above parts that holds the temperature down to around 225 degrees. Install a quality 190/195 degree thermostat & if the vehicle overheats? Look else where, the thermostat is NOT the culprit. DRL

Not unless you try to change the whole front end of the car.
Yes it will if the 96 is a standard Mark Vlll, if the 96 is a LSC model it won't.

Facing the front of the car with the hood open, on the drivers side follow the radiator hose down till you come to a junction where you see two bolts, that is where the thermostat is.
