FIRST-TIME OUTSIDE KITTENS???? I strongly recommend that you bring those darlings into the house immediately and find them INDOOR-ONLY homes! Otherwise, they will die sooner or later from any one of a myriad of diseases, if not from other animals, traffic, cruel people, environmental hazards, and so on! And in the meantime they will suffer a miserable life of fear, discomfort from fleas, earmites and ticks, upper respiratory diseases, and a host of other enemies of innocent little kittens. IT IS SO IMPORTANT THAT KITTENS NEVER BE PUT OUTSIDE! INSTEAD, FERAL KITTENS BORN OUTSIDE SHOULD BE CAPTURED, TAKEN TO A VETERINARIAN WHERE THEY CAN BE TESTED FOR FELV/FIV, VACCINATED IF OLD ENOUGH AND THEN KEPT IN A SMALL AREA INDOORS WHERE THEY CAN BE TAMED AND DOMESTICATED WITH LOTS OF LOVE AND TENDERNESS. These kittens make excellent indoor-only pets! ( Adult barn cats should be tested, vaccinated and neutered or spayed. They should also have access to fresh drinking water and dry cat food!)

the writer of the question obviously wanted a indoor/outdoor cat. NOT YOUR OPINON! its their choice...NOT YOURS...answer the question and keep your opinon to yourself unless they ask for it.

as for the question...i did just write out a huge explaination which took me a hour but the thingy wasnt logged in. but to put it in basics first, make sure you and your kitten have the following covered:

Kitten is FULLY vaccined and check for fleas and ticks often

Kitten is over 5 months AT LEAST

Kitten is spayed and neutered, i cant stress how important this is and i don't think anyone can say any different!

Kitten has access to food inside and outside and the outside food is away from the door so if another cat is hungry your kitten can come inside

Kitten is comfortable in your home and knows he has food, water, warmth, shelter, love and hugs available - this is make sure that he will come home.

You are comfortable with having your kitten outside.

You have bought a GOOD collar which wont strangle him if it gets caught. and it fits properly so it doesnt catch on anything. with your address and phone number - im not sure about adding a name as you never know how horrible people are.

You have checked the areas animal accident rate - yes accidents happen but if they are happening alot. theres a problem and don't add your cat to the list.

if you have all this covered your ok to start.

make the days before the big outting the best ever. play with him lots, give him treats, displine him in the nicest way possible. try avoid using your voice for example.

if your a big worrier start by using a lead and kitten proofing your garden. use the door you would like your cat to use when taking him out, take him around the garden and let him smell stuff and get comfortable and use to the smells of home. you can do this around a wide area if you like the most important is to praise him lots while in the garden hense why we didnt use your voice to displine him. DONT let him off the lead if YOU are not comfortable.

then bring him home. show him the door then show him FOOD (CATS LOVE FOOD!) and give him a treat as he returned. make the treats smaller and smaller each time he comes home on his own.

you can use the lead for a couple of days then let go of the lead in the garden or unattach it from the harness. and just follow him around. if you get really worried come down to his level and hold a treat in your hand and call him. then try again tomorrow. keep going until you and your kitten is ready.

stay in the garden and don't follow him. he will come back to see you if hes worried. then leave the door wide open. then close the door (of leave it ajar if you don't have a cat flap) and keep the cat flap a little open (try to hold it so they can see its open by using string or something) , and then close it all together with the cat flap unlocked (of course)...don't rush, be patient...he knows where food is and he will get hungry =D

Good luck and many great adventures for your kitten!

When can you let your kitten out for the first time?

Kittens can be let out with supervision, with you right there with them, as soon as they can walk. As they get used to their surroundings, you can give them more freedom, in a few months they can go outside alone, but with you watching at first, then later on their own once you know they will come back and not wander off.

When can the mother cat be let outside with having kittens?

Your question isnt very clear but if she is an indoor/outdoor cat just make sure she can get back in to feed her babies. She will know when its time.

Kittens first time out will it come back?

Depends on how long it was inside before it was let out. If it was inside for at least six weeks, it will likely come back because it will know where it's home is; if less than six weeks, it is anyone's guess.

Can kittens survive in the cold?

Yes they can except i don't know what you really mean by outside if it's your backyard they can play there with your supervision , and I'm sure that both you and the kittens will enjoy it a lot.
