Well the 1993 Ranger was a new design compared to the previous Rangers and ther were no major changes to it until about 1998 I believe. So I do not see why it would not work. You could know for sure if you look at a haynes manual if the haynes manuel for a 1993 is the same as a 1997 you should be alright.

Sources> I own a 1993 ranger, worked on just about every part of it.

I just did what you are asking. I own a '93 5-speed that went bad and put in a '98 5-speed. The difference is that the '93 is a manual speedometer and the '98 is electric. So, to make it work, I pulled the tail housings off, and discovered that the shafts are the same, just that the '98 was missing the drive gear for the speedometer cable gear. I removed the gear from the '93 and put in the shaft for the '98 and swapped tail housings. That's it. If you live in Eastern PA, good luck finding a 5-speed for a 3.0 under $700. I found mine at E-Z pull in New Ringold, PA for $80. I got lucky.

Will a 1998 ford ranger manual transmission fit in a 1993 with a manual transmission?

yes, the manual transmission is the same in the 1993-1997 model and the 1998-present model. it is the Mazda M5OD-R1 transmission There are differences that you will need to fix: the '98 has an electronic speedometer sensor, the '93 had a gear drive cable. the tail housing and gear inside can be swapped. Also the hydraulic clutch fitting is slightly different so the slave cylinder needs to be swapped. easy fix. I know because I did it.
