All ZX2 transmissions are interchangeable.
The 97 and up Ford Escort Sedan manual transmission will fit the manual transmission ZX2 with minor modification. There are 2 or 3 transmission to engine bolts that will not line up. The starter mounting holes on the Sedan transmission are the same except one is threaded. The threaded hole will need to be drilled out to accept the starter bolts from the ZX2. Everything else lines up and works fine. It is important to note that the gearing in the Sedan is different. The gearing is taller and spaced farther apart. You will lose acceleration and gain MPG.
You cannot use the Sedan or any other Escort transmission if you have an automatic. The 4EAT (TC) transmission seems to be exclusive to the ZX2.
It should.
I believe that only 96-99 can be swapped 2000 and newer will not fit correctly.

My Ford 1998 Escort started slipping. It also leaks and I put tranny fluid in. If I need to replace or rebuild the transmission. How much should a total repair be?
I believe it is located in the end of the transmission.
